Sea Kayaking

Kayaking in the ocean

One of my favorite parts of a vacation is the excitement of a new place to explore.

A typical Sea Kayaking trip will not disappoint the most enthusiastic adventurer.

Places like Alaska, Georgia and Baja California's Sea of Cortez are just a few of the most perfect spots to let loose with your kayak.

Kayaking is a sport that most anyone can take part in. No matter where you live there are trips of any length that well take you to remote areas, unique spots and wildlife that you may never get to see if you don't pack up your kayak and search for them.

Depending on where you choose to go you can experience California Gray Whales; the largest animals on earth, sea otters, orca, sea lions colorful fish, scenic canyons, volcanic shorelines, with scattered islands and much more.

It gets better; Kayaking is only the start. Camping, snorkeling, wildlife watching, bird watching and hiking along trails full of interesting flora and fauna.

All you need is clothes that you don't mind getting wet, shoes that won't come off in the water, sunscreen, drinking water and a mind for adventure.

Georgia
Sheltered waters, estuary zones with warm waters, river inlets and old abandoned lighthouses overlooking the sea make Georgia a great place for kayakers of all levels.

An amazing variety of wildlife like river otters and sea turtles are fun for all the family as well as the adventurer looking for nature.

Paddle out over gentle waves, then travel down the coast to find larger waves to surf in your kayak. When that gets tiring take a break on the warm sandy beaches to take a rest before you travel into one of the many inlets to see the marshlands, everglade like grass and oyster bars.

For the final leg of your days journey stop in to visit a civil war era fort and learn a little more history of the United States.

Alaska
The humbling experience of Tidewater glaciers or ice choked water passes is one of Alaska's true gems.

However, cold winter snow and glaciers is not all there is to Alaska, Beautiful granite domes overlooking bay waters, green trees and rushing rivers as far as the eye can see fills the land during its mild summers.

Alaska is a great opportunity for kayakers to explore the waters as well as the land. When you are done kayaking for the day hiking through majestic valleys and ancient mountain ranges filled with wild splendor is abound.

Although the Alaskan backcountry may not be the place for beginners, the intermediate and advanced kayakers will love this wilderness wonderland. Places like Whale Bay and Harriman Fjord will show you a side of America and kayaking that most people never get to see.

Massive calving glaciers put on a show of Mother Natures power while her prevailing winds push you along your way. The magnificence of Alaska can be planned with guides that can not only show you areas you might not know of but plan a trip that is filled with history, great food and memories.

Baja California
Shores of windswept dunes, desert islands and a horizon painted with the Sierra Giganta Mountains all await the adventurous sea kayaker that travels to Lorento Bay on the Sea of Cortez. From cactus and mangrove lined estuaries to sea caves and lagoons this land is full of imagination and exploration.

This photographer's dreamscape offers rustic red desert colors and crystalline blue waters, playful dolphins, sea lions and blue whales.

These remote areas are experienced by few people and are exceptional opportunities to kayak until you heart is content.

When you finish your day of sea kayaking you can swim and snorkel among a dazzling array of tropical fish and Manta Rays.

Pacific North West
The waters of the Pacific Ocean are not to be taken lightly. Pounding surf, rapidly changing weather and rugged, remote headlands and sea cliffs that only seabirds and shipwrecked sailors have seen, deliver stunningly beautiful photographs and memories for the kayaker that dares to test his or her skills.

Up and down the Oregon, Washington and British Columbia shorelines you will find remote sandy beaches, coves, great surfing beaches and rock formations. It is a place for the well practiced and experienced sea kayaker. If you don't feel like you are ready this is a place to train for.

Of course if you don't own a kayak and you are still interested in a sea kayaking vacation, you can find tour guides and instructors that will help you find the perfect place for you to grow some flippers and stretch your paddles.

Take some time to find a spot that is good for what ever skill level you are at so you can experience this fantastic adventure pastime.

Training
The high mountain lakes of Yellowstone provide one of the most diverse and beautiful training grounds in the world for learning to sea kayak.

One of the best inland paddling destinations in the country its high mountains, endless forests, meadows covered with wildflowers, and wild animals in their native environment allow for a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing getaway.

The safety, fun, and learning experiences coupled with an appreciation for the natural environment act as the ideal environment to learn and get ready for the open ocean water.

An experienced instructor/guide can teach you even if you have no prior kayaking experience. This unique look at Yellowstone National Park is a great way to learn a new sport and relax.
