Kansas Vacation Ideas

Kansas is the center of North America.
It's rich history of the Wild West and old cow towns of Dodge City, Abilene and Wichita are filled with names like Susan B. Anthony, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, William "Bat" Masterson, and Henry Brown.
Today Kansas has many of the same customs as it had back then but with a modern twist.
The covered wagon has been up graded to the RV and the Wild West has been retired to the museums and cultural centers but there is still plenty to see and do in this state.
Kansas is full of spectacular sunsets, Fields of wispy wheat and curious sunflowers fading to the horizon.
Farmers plant over 170,000 acres of Sunflowers each year. August is a spectacular time to camp near a sunflower field and soak in the sunrays with them.
Camping
If you ever wanted to know what is was like for the settlers during the westward expansion of the United States then Kansas is the place for you. The Oregon Trail passes through Kansas.
Kansas is home to the largest remaining stand of tall grass prairie in North America, providing a glimpse of what the continent looked like 200 years ago.
You can still see bison grazing along the highways, on the High Plains and while you hike the rolling Flint Hills witnessing the grassroots of America.
Caving and rock climbing oppertunities will break up your hikes if you are so inclined. Kayaking is also a great way to spend you summer days.
You can also get an up close look at them at two of the state's wildlife refuges. Kansas is also an excellent place for birding opportunities.
At night Kansas is a great opportunity to teach yourself and the children about the planets and the night sky. One of my favorite things to do is look for constellations and for just a few dollars you can pick up a star finder. It's not hard to do and it is a lifetime of knowledge and fun for everyone.
History Buffs Buffet
History buffs can explore the state's legendary cowboy towns, countless museums celebrating the state's pioneers, aviation history, farming and Native American heritage.
RVers Paradise
Kansas's sheer size lends itself to the RV. Like the pioneers before you, you have the flexibility to change locations on an impulse experiencing the great wide open outdoors that only Kansas RV Park or campgrounds can provide.
Throughout Kansas you'll find campgrounds and RV parks ready to accommodate tents, that super sized RV of yours and even a caravan of RVers.
Enjoy your Kansas Vacation!
